Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned swimmer, we have a class that will fit your needs. Classes range in skill levels and follow the guidelines and procedures set by the American Red Cross.

  • 45 minutes of instruction
  • 15 minutes of free swim (5:45 p.m. for both the 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. classes)
  • FREE swimming on Saturdays at either pool location
  • 2 FREE Edge Ice Center Passes
  • In case of rain, make-up lessons are held for the following week.

LEVEL 1 – INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS

  • Going under water
  • Supported front & back floating
  • Supported rolling over from front to back and back to front
  • Supported gliding
  • Supported flutter kick
  • Supported front crawl arms
  • Jumping in the water

LEVEL 2 – FUNDAMENTAL AQUATICS SKILLS

Swimmers should already be able to float on front & back and put head under water. Swimmers will work on:

  • Independent front and back floating
  • Independent rolling over from front to back and back to front
  • Independent front and back glides
  • Front crawl arms and kicks
  • Back crawl arms and kicks
  • Retrieving under water objects
  • Jumping into water over his/her head

LEVEL 3 – STROKE DEVELOPMENT

Swimmers should already be comfortable swimming front stroke & swimming on their back. Swimmers will work on:

  • Gliding
  • Freestyle with side breathing
  • Backstroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Dolphin kicks
  • Retrieving objects in deeper water
  • Treading water
  • Jumping into deep water and compact dives

LEVEL 4 – STROKE IMPROVEMENT

Swimmers should already be able to swim front & back crawl 25 yards. Swimmers will work on:

  • Rotary breathing
  • Freestyle
  • Elementary backstroke
  • Backstroke
  • Scissors kick
  • Sidestroke
  • Whip kick
  • Breaststroke
  • Intro to turning at wall
  • Treading water with modified scissors

LEVEL 5 – STROKE REFINEMENT

Swimmers should already be able to swim freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke 25 yards, scissors kick, whip kick and treading water. Swimmers will work on:

  • Alternate breathing
  • Stride jump

Refinement of:

  • Freestyle
  • Backstroke
  • Elementary backstroke
  • Sidestroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Dolphin kick
  • Butterfly
  • Open turn on front and back
  • Treading water

LEVEL 6 – SWIMMING & SKILL PROFICIENCY
Swimmer should already be able to swim front and back crawl 50 yards, elementary backstroke 25 yards, breaststroke 25 yards, butterfly 25 yards, sidestroke 10 yards and tread water for 3 minutes. Swimmers will work on:

  • All six strokes
  • Front and back crawl flip turn
  • Breaststroke turn
  • Breaststroke speed turn and pullout
  • Butterfly turn
  • Sidestroke turn
  • Tread water for 5 minutes
  • Basic water rescue
