Owensboro Parks & Recreation is excited to celebrate National Parks & Recreation Month this July, highlighting the significant impact of parks and recreation in Owensboro.  This month-long celebration showcases how Owensboro is stronger, more vibrant, and more resilient due to its parks and recreation amenities.


Owensboro Parks & Recreation has several fun activities and giveaways planned throughout the month:


  • July 18, 2:30 p.m. – Meet the Author at Moreland Park’s Story Book Walk featuring Cameron Levis, author of “Home is Where Your Park is.” The event includes a story reading and a hands-on activity.
  • July 19 – Play for FREE Day!
    • Combest Pool: Free swim admission from noon – 4:30 p.m.
    • Edge Ice Center: Free evening session from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m.
    • Ben Hawes Golf Course: Free round on the Par 3 course from dawn to dusk.
    • Hillcrest Golf Course: Free Green Fee for 9 holes of golf.
  • July 22-25  – Participate in the Selfie Challenge for a chance to win Holiday World tickets! Check the Owensboro Parks & Recreation Facebook page that week for information on how to participate.
  • Throughout the month – Owensboro Parks & Recreation encourages the community to share their favorite Owensboro park’s experiences by using the hashtag #ParksandRecMonth2024 and #OBKYParks. Submitted images may be chosen by the department to be used throughout the year to show the many benefits of parks and recreation within our community.
