The Owensboro Parks and Recreation team at the Edge Ice Center is excited to announce we will be opening our Summer Skate Camp Program for 2021!  We appreciate your patience, as we have worked with other parks departments throughout Kentucky and our state legislators to make this possible!  SB66 is currently on the Governor’s desk for signature.  Based upon its unopposed passage, we expect a signature from the Governor any day making it possible for the operation of our municipal summer camps programs and many others across the state!  Here is a link for that bill in case you would like to follow it:  21RS SB 66 (ky.gov).

Our Summer Skate Camp program this summer will be limited to HOCKEY and FIGURE SKATING GROUPS ONLY, due to capacity and staffing. The format and operations will feel and look like previous summers, with a few expected Covid requirements we will finalize as camp approaches and we see the current Covid regulations at that time.  As it stands today, campers will be required to wear a mask inside, unless on the ice engaged in physical activity. When playing outside, campers can choose to take their mask off. Camp staff will wear masks at all times inside, and be able to take them off while outside if they can maintain a 6 foot distance from campers and other staff. Due to COVID-19, we will limit staff and campers mixing groups to morning drop offs and late day pick-ups when our numbers are fewer.  We will design games and activities to encourage the six-foot distance during these times, and enforce the mask policy.

Also, know we will remain unlicensed and do not operate as a licensed childcare facility. We are committed to a great summer recreational camp experience.  We will operate and follow the same standards we have always followed to ensure your child is safe, in a clean facility, and appropriately supervised at all times. We hope to go swimming once per week and are currently working on our fieldtrip and bus schedule. We may be limited on number of fieldtrips due to bus availability and facilities willing to take in large numbers. If we cannot have a field trip, we will have a special guest and/or fun activities and special events planned!

  • REGISTRATION FOR EDGE SKATE CAMP WILL BE OPEN ONLY TO THE FOLLOWING GROUPS:
    • Previously registered in Edge Day Camp HOCKEY or FIGURE group; or
    • Current member of Owensboro Youth Hockey Association or Owensboro Figure Skating Club; or
    • Sibling of one of the above who will be in attendance; or

Registration will start Wednesday, March 24 at 8 a.m. and remain open for these families only through Friday, April 9 close of business that day.  We do anticipate a decreased number of camp spots available, either due to Covid restrictions and/or due to staffing limitations since we are getting a late start.  I encourage you to get your paperwork completed, immunization records and get registered in March!  You are not guaranteed a spot. Make sure your forms are complete and signed in all spots, including by your child on the discipline form.  Incomplete forms cannot be accepted!
